About the Author and Illustrator

My husband is a firefighter and I am a homemaker. After the birth of our son, we came up with an idea that turned into a goal for us both. I noticed being a new mom that there were very little books that went over fire safety in any store. Most things you could find were about what a firefighter does, what he/she wears, etc. As a firefighter, my husband regularly has many children and students visiting the fire station. He and the other firefighters teach these children about the seven aspects of children's fire safety.

Our goal was simple. Provide an easy way for both children and their parents to have access to these seven aspects of children's fire safety in a fun, educational manner. So, I decided to write a story. My husband is not only a fireman but an artist as well. We both graduated from Florida State University. He graduated with a BS in Art and I with a BA in French. Bradley is an excellent artist and I knew if we worked together he would provide life to my story with his drawings. I also knew his drawings would attract children to the book and thus have them enjoy learning a valuable lesson. Our goal together is to save as many lives as we can by covering all seven aspects of children's fire safety and educating both children and parents in a fun, interactive way. We plan on doing this in a series of four books with Douglas the Duck being the main character in each book. We hope that in writing and illustrating these books, we will have a greater audience and spread the word about fire safety.
